I have a few mentors in my life and I'm a better person because of Pastor John Atkinson, Pastor Bil Cornelius, Pastor Craig Groeschel, Kendra Kinnison, Rome Gregorio David Flores and many others.
Today I realized I needed a 14 year old mentor. My son Avery has been rebuilding our bikes. We have 5 kids so there are 239 bike related pieces in our garage.
Today we set out on an adventure to the old railroad bridge that formally was used to cross the Oso. Now it is basically a burned out and pieced together fishing pier. You have to watch your step or end up in the bay. He wanted to take our bikes across and ride the trails on the other side. I was concerned (nice way of saying scared) we would fall in or lose the bikes in the 30 mph winds. He reminded me that life should be an adventure and taking risks is important. I guess I have gotten old and safe.
I'm not saying you need to follow ALL the advice of every 14 year old but its good to be reminded of the fearless boy we used to be before we grew up. Life is too short to play it safe. Take risks and fail at some stuff. Maybe you need a new mentor that just challenges you to do something you wouldn't attempt otherwise.
The verse I live by is John 17:4 I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
