My boys were no different but I work hard to teach them what God really has for their lives and their future wife is way more important than a bear. If you have boys then it is really important to speak about their future wife. Yes it annoys my boys too but I want them to see every girl they meet in the light of a future bride. That may sound weird because it is very weird. I don't want my boys to be normal and they are very aware of that fact. I encourage them to only date someone that attends AND serves in church. I also encourage them to be friends a long time before talking about dating. This plants the seed that this girl is either my future wife or someone's so I better honor that in everything I do with her. I would have been extremely blessed if someone would have gotten that fact into my head 30 years ago.
As for Maddy? Well she is going to be so used to me giving her the validation and love that she craves, any boy will be starting from way behind the curve to get her attention and keep it. See I have taking her flowers to school on Vday every year. I do have a very clear agenda. I want every boy in her school to see she has a father that thinks she is amazing and beautiful so she doesn't need their superficial compliments. Also I want her to seek a husband that is better than her father. Basically I am setting the bar high and she will require that boy to exceed it or move along. She is also very aware of the attend church AND serve standard.
As for my bride? She gets a diamond necklace every year with matching stud earrings. YEAH RIGHT! I am a Pastor! She and I started a great tradition many years ago due to fact we had a lot of kids and very little money. We write each other a letter and make dinner for just the two of us. It is about the quality not the dollar amount.
